Is there an escape from the rat race?

Is there an escape from the rat race?

Have you ever woken in the morning to the realization that you are living in the movie Groundhog Day… and thinking there has to be more to life than this.  More than reliving the same endless grind every day and hoping that one day you can jump off the hamster wheel that is going to nowhere?  Have you ever felt that your soul is slowly being sucked away and that you are losing touch with your friends and family because you have chosen to follow what society expects of you and thinks of as the successful path.  I know this sounds very morose, but please don’t stop reading, as this is not a sad tale.  Because, if you have ever felt this way, I would like you to join me in the journey I have chosen to see if there is more to life out there.  The search for something more tranquil and fulfilling.

You see, I have awoken to a dream of moving from the stressful corporate world and getting back to the land.  Embracing a more simplistic, healthier lifestyle of living in the country and working and living off the land.  So logically I must make this dream a reality, right?  So what have I decided to do?  Well of course, my husband and I have purchased a run down farmhouse to renovate on an acreage that we can begin farming.  Sounds like a great plan, does it not?  Oh wait there is one catch… we have little experience renovating and definitely no agricultural experience.  Let’s be very clear we are true city slickers.  So much so, that we have always bought new homes and have hardscape landscaping for minimal care.  So what do my friends and family think?  Well I do believe they think that I am crazy.  So I guess that is the million dollar question, isn’t it.  Am I crazy?  Or, have I found the path to creating the new me, and finding my true inner peace and happiness.  I do not know, but I am going to find out.

Our Little Farmhouse

So I thought, why not share this crazy ride with others who at the very least can hopefully learn, laugh and cry with me along the way.  So my question to you is… are you on board to join me on my journey to tranquility?  Are you willing to get on the roller coaster ride with me to see if in fact there is more to life out there?  If so, stay tuned for the updates on the first steps of moving from the rat race to a country space, where we will be bringing back to life a neglected farm house.  If nothing else, should at least be interesting….

  1. Make sure you renovate enough rooms in the basement for all your friends, as well as your husband’s golfing buddies, who will be Overstaying their welcome. Haha

I am certain that with your intelligence and skill set that you will transition from your former persona to your new one. Physical work can be very therapeutic and experiencing that kind of setting will set you free. You are on the right path, though it may be bumpy at times, persevere. It will be worth it.

  3. Good for you!! I am excited to follow your journey and one day (hopefully soon) make a similar leap of faith!
